Xbox Movie Rental Rates: how much?

i understand you can purchase/rent tv shows and movies; do i have to have gold membership for it? also since the arcade doesnt have much memory, can i plug a external hardrive and download the movies rentals and tv shows on there? how much does SD cost and how much does HD cost to rent and to buy.





i am not talking about netflix, but it i would appreciate it if you let me know how much netflix cost.

The first step to renting a movie would be to purchase an Xbox 360 hard drive. You cannot use a USB hard drive or a thumb drive, it has to be proprietary.


The memory card that comes with the arcade system is only 512mb, a movie can be up to 3 times that.

You don't rent the movies directly, you purchase Microsoft points, which are then used to purchase the rentals. Its a terrible system, but its their system, so us xbox users have no choice.


It wouldn't be so bad if you could purchase 320 points or 450 points (SD and HD prices) but you have to purchase 500, 1000, 2000, etc. There is no way to buy the amount you need. Often if you are only short even 10-20 points, you have to buy 500 points. It is a marketing scheme to get more money out of people than would normally be required. there is nothing that costs 500 points or 1000 points. Its all 450 points or 800 points or 1200 points. 80 microsoft points = $1. So you see the problem, it can add up very quick.





Anyways, Netflix is free to use through the xbox as long as you have a paid Netflix account, which runs you about 10-30 bucks a month, depending on the plan you choose. I think the base plan which is around 5 dollars a month doesn't support instant play, which you need to play Netflix on your xbox.





To rent your first movie, here is an estimated cost: $150 for the 120gb hard drive (Microsoft doesn't sell the 60gb separately, but you might be able to find it at a used video game store, such as Gamestop).





$6.25 for 500 Microsoft points to purchase the rental.





$156.25 to start renting movies. I'm sure Blockbuster could offer you a better deal than that.





Make sure you don't start watching the movie until you are absolutely ready to! If you don't start it you get 14 days to watch it. But the moment you start the movie that time drops to 24 hours. So if you are planning on watching it the next evening or something, don't open the movie!!
