I don't know what is going on with the car rental companies these days, but I recently had to book a rental car for a trip to San Francisco on priceline. I highly recommend you go to Priceline and you can bid (name your price) for your car rental in Reno. I'm going to S.F. in January, which is supposed to be low-season and great prices. However, I found that every rental car company wanted at least $100.00 a day for an economy (the smallest) sized car. That is outrageous! I got a price of $30.00 a day accepted by Alamo on Priceline. Big difference in price. Priceline saved the day for me. Hope you get a good deal on there. Tip: Be careful not to bid too low or you'll have to bid again. Why are car rental rates in Reno so high?
When I have to book a rental car the first thing I do is find out what car rental agencies are at that airport.Make a list with all the names and phone numbers, then wait until 2am-4am and call all of them. I have not paid more than $110.00 for a week's rental in 3 yrs. and I rent mid size cars

Its all based on supply/demand. Some require that you keep the car for a Sat night to get good rates. Try something like travelocity
