Why are Landlords still charging extortionate rental rates even while we are in recession?

Loads of people are losing jobs due to shops closing down as they can no longer afford to pay the rent. Why are Landlords still charging extortionate rental rates even while we are in recession?
Because-the Market is strong for rentals. People are putting off buying and losing homes and returning to rentals. At the same time owners are having increased taxes and fees. It is a supply and demand situation. For every guy that cant afford to pay the rent its seems of late their are three that can.Why are Landlords still charging extortionate rental rates even while we are in recession?
Their costs don't go down. They don't get a discount on their property's mortgage. They don't get a discount on their business taxes. They don't get a discount on their corporate insurance. They don't get a discount on maintenance costs.

Add to that the fact their personal mortgage, taxes, insurance, food and living costs are also going up how do you think they pay for all that? By giving you a reduction in rent?
Yes I like this question. Rent is outrageous and it needs to come down. Unfortunately it is like they have us over a barrell. We have to have a place to live and they know that, but rent is too high, mortgages are too high, housing in general is too high. This is part of the problem with the housing industry.

NO ONE IS BUILDING A HOUSE THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN CAN AFFORD. This is really stupid on the part of home builders and real estate people alike. It's like Wal Mart, Wal Mart gets better prices on commodities because they buy in bulk and they distribute in bulk. Therefore their sales are more based on volume and if there was a home builder out there that understood this concept they could actually make themselves very rich.

Personally, I could live in a small cubicle and be fine. Have you looked at the new microhousing modules, which I think is a fabulous idea and we need to move to something similiar to that in order to have housing that people can afford.

Good question, they are doing it because they are nothing more than greedy.
where I live on the west coast a housing authority has been set up encoraging renters to go back to the landlord asking for reductions and the committee will review and some landlords will get a government top up.

there are way to many homeless people out there......and it may end up another government scrapt project.

i own properties and so far no one has asked me..but I knew of churches that were paying a ';top up '; to some renters.
